Trader Joe’s Tteokbokki (Easy Stir Fry Recipe)

Easy and delicious stir fry using Trader Joe’s Tteokbokki. The flavors are savory, bold with a peppery heat. I change up the sauce a tiny bit, add vegetables, protein and melted cheese to make the perfect dinner!

Trader Joe’s Tteokbokki (Easy Stir Fry Recipe)

Trader Joe’s Tteokbokki is by far my favorite savory item, I have to pick this up whenever I shop there. The texture of the rice cakes are fun to eat especially paired with the sauce.

I do change the sauce a little bit as I am not greatest with super spicy things. And I also make it more of a meal by adding protein, vegetables and cheese. Sometimes i’ll add some small pasta noodles. Its SO GOOD.

Trader Joe's Tteokbokki

On Trader Joe’s website it say the Tteokbokki is “Made for us by a supplier in Korea, each package of Trader Joe’s Tteok Bok Ki comes with a portion of bite- sized rice cakes and a packet of fiery, gochujang-spiced sauce.” The sauce is definitely fiery, but has a very tasty flavor to it.

Is the Trader Joe’s Tteokbokki spicy?

It depends on your spice tolerance but short answer it yes. I do change the sauce a little bit as I am not great with super spicy things. I normally only use half of the packet included, and then I mix it with stock, soy sauce and a bit of sugar. The spice level is perfect for me and the flavor is insanely delicious.

Trader Joe's Tteokbokki Easy Stir Fry

I do rate this 10/10, one of my favorite frozen meals from Trader Joes. The sauce is delicious and the rice cakes are such a fun texture. I add my favorite veggies, mango jalapeño sausages and cheese. I’ll even add in a small pasta noodle to soak up the extra sauce; its truly perfection. If you’ve never tried this from Trader Joe’s, you definitely should!

Ingredients

Sauce

  • Half the sauce packet included ( I freeze the other half for another day)
  • 1 cup broth (or seasoned water)
  • 2 Tbsp Low Sodium Soy Sauce
  • 1 Tbsp sugar

Instructions

  • Drizzle the oil and fry the sliced mango sausages over medium high heat about 3-5 minutes. stirring occasionally. Add sausages to a bowl and set aside.
  • In the same pan used for the sausages, melt the butter over medium heat. Sauté sliced shallots for 2 minutes. Add the stir fry veggies(except spinach) and saute for 3 minutes, stirring occasionally. Add the garlic and sauté 30 seconds. Season with salt and pepper.
  • While the vegetables cook, add half the sauce packet included, 1 cup broth, 2 Tbsp Low Sodium Soy Sauce and 1 Tbsp sugar to a mixing bowl.
  • Add the sausages back into the pan with the cooked veggies. Add Sauce/broth to the pan and mix. Mix in the Tteokbokki (optional: add 1/2 cup small pasta noodles) and bring to a boil over medium high. Once boiling, simmer over medium heat. Cook for 10 minutes, partially covered, stirring occasionally until the Tteokbokki is soft (and pasta noodles are cooked, if added).
