Why use buttermilk?

Using regular milk will give a cake a subtle flavor, but buttermilk will give even more flavor with its rich, buttery taste. It makes baked goods moist right from the start and helps the cake rise. I will now always have a carton of buttermilk so I can make this recipe.

Instructions

  • 1. Combine flour, dark cocoa powder, sugar, baking powder, and baking soda in a microwave-safe mug. Stir well.
  • Add in buttermilk and canola oil. Whisk together with a fork. Stir in chocolate chips. Microwave for 60 seconds, or until the cake is set (30 second increments after, for me 2 minutes total is perfect). Enjoy with whipped cream and chocolate chips!
